Otis Pickle

Update: Otis seems to have gotten worse over the weekend. He still hasn't eaten and now when ever he drinks something he just throws it up. He also keeps hiding in random spots around the house in order to get away from everyone. We have found him under the kitchen table, under the high chair, in between the couch and the end table, and in Ella's closet. All those things put together kind of tell us he is ready to go. He seems to have made peace with it, I however have not. I realize that this is the best for him, but it still sucks. I can't say that he was the best dog, he is sort of ornery, but he's our dog and that's all that matters. We love you Otis Humphrey. You will forever be missed.

3/17/08 Otis has officially crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Cody buried him at his parents farm. I ordered him a little grave marker today. I already miss him so much.

Otis has many nicknames. Some are loving nicknames, some not so loving. I have been really careful about only using the loving nicknames lately. Here are a few that we love to use:

Otis Botis

Otis Pickle

Otis Humpernickle

Otis Humpernickle Pickle

Oda Boda

How he got these nicknames we have no clue. They were just names that sort of came out of our mouths at one time or another and they stuck.

Otis has not been doing so well. He quit eating yesterday. We have been trying all sorts of different foods and he won't touch any of them. He is still drinking water so that is a good thing, however the vet said that it is probably his time to go. We are going to see how the weekend goes and if he doesn't improve Cody is going to take him to the vet on Monday morning to have him put to sleep. None of us are taking this very well. I really just wanted Mother Nature to take it's course, however according to the vet he will probably die of dehydration and starvation first and that is just cruel. I definitely can't do that to him. I realize that I am probably just keeping him around for myself, but I love him so much. I don't want him to go.

Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.

Mama's new wheels!

Kyler is checking out the muskrat in the pond across the street.

Today I got new wheels. Ok, so they are in the form of a double stroller but that's alright! I decided that with the weather getting nice I would finally be able to take the kids on walks, however I only had single strollers and pushing two would be rather difficult, not to mention look really weird! So off to Babies R Us I went. I have actually been researching double strollers since November so I knew exactly what I wanted, I just wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much money. After cruising around the store with the stroller I was sold. This stroller is compact enough that it will fit in the Equinox, our old car seat fits right in it, steers really well, has cup holders for myself and the kids, and Kyler can get in and out on his own. It's great. We took it for a spin tonight around the neighborhood and so far I love it.

Happy Birthday Ella!

I know this picture isn't the greatest, but I actually got her to smile in a picture so I decided to post it anyway!

Ella turned two months old this weekend. We have her two month appointment this week but I am guessing she is around 13 pounds. Boy, does that girl love to eat! She has already doubled her birth weight! I will let you know the exact measurements after we go to the doctor. She is sleeping a little better at night. She is up 2-3 times but it's better than 6! She is cooing and making noises constantly and usually a pretty happy baby. She is still having a couple hours of cranky time at night but it seems to be getting better. She smiles a lot during the day and cries a lot in the evening. It's kind of weird.

Updated 3/12/08: Ella had her two month appt today and she weighed 11 lbs 14 oz (75%ile) and was 22 3/4 inches long (63%ile) (not 11 inches-can you tell I have to type my blogs quickly!!). I thought she would weigh a little more then that. Oh well. She is growing quite well so that makes me very happy. She had to have three shots today. She was not thrilled. She cried for a bit, then fell asleep. She's awake right now but seems to be happy so hopefully we'll have a good day!

A week at home

Ella and Great Grandma Smith

Ella and Great Grandpa Smith

Last week Cody had a long week of traveling so instead of staying at home with the little ones (who were sick) and the dogs I decided to head to my folks house. First of all, let me say thank you to mom and dad for their help with the kids. Second, let me stay that I will never, ever do that again (at least not with the dogs!) Let me explain. The trip home did not just involve myself, Kyler, and Ella. It also involved the dogs! I thought that since Otis has not been feeling well that he would be just fine at mom and dads (they are not big dog people remember!). However, Otis decided that he needed to be a huge pain in the butt while we were there and bark, and whine, and tear things up! Oh, Otis, when will you learn! Other then the dogs the trip was great. Kyler and Ella love to spend time with Grandma and Grandpa. Kyler got to go see Grandpa at work, feed the kitties, see Great Grandma and Great Grandpa, see Great Aunt Jill and Great Uncle Greg and sleep with mommy! Life was good! Ella got to meet Great Grandma and Grandpa and Great Aunt Jill and Great Uncle Greg for the first time and spend the whole week cuddling with Grandma. Does life get any better?
