Why I Cloth Diaper

When Ella was around 4 months I decided to take the plunge and cloth diaper. This wasn't an easy decision for me. Quite honestly I was scared. I made the choice for several reasons. 1, Kyler and Ella were both in diapers and I was spending $40 a week in diapers. 2, I was sick of all the trash. 3, the more I read about disposables and the health risks, the more frightened I got.

I started off by buying the Bum Genius all in ones. My husband told me if I was going to this, then I needed to go the easy route. All in Ones are the easy route. They are just like disposables, only you wash them.

After buying six Bum Genius diapers I knew that cloth diapering was for me. I bought 12 more Bum Genius. Since them I have purchased many different types. So far my favorite is the Thirsties cloth diaper. It fits Ella nicely and its absorbant.

When Ella is "done" with her cloth diaper, we put it in a trash can with a lid and a washable liner that we keep in the bathroom. If it's a poopy diaper I use the diaper sprayer that we have attached to the toilet to clean it off and then it goes in the can. I wash diapers every 2-3 days. This was the hardest part for me because we have an HE washer and it was very difficult to get all the soap out of the diapers. We now have 2 washers hooked up and I use the regular washer for diapers only. That has made a huge difference.

We currently have 40-50 cloth diapers and it works well for us. We use cloth diapers primarily all the time. If the grandparents don't want to use the cloth diapers, then they buy the disposables. We do put a disposable on Ella at night simply because I can not find a cloth diaper that will contain all her pee! Shoot, most nights the disposable doesn't!

While I know that cloth diapering is not for everyone, it is an option that I think all moms should consider. I know that time is a big concern for all moms, but honestly, if I can do it, you can do it. Diaper laundry is my favorite laundry! I love pulling out all those cloth diapers and see them all pretty and clean.

Some of you may be wandering where this post came from. Well, when I was reading this blog, she asked that all cloth diapering mamas do a post and try to promote cloth diapering. While I don't know that I convinced any of you to give it a try, I hope I at least made you think about it.

If you have any questions about cloth diapers or want to know more about my experiences please leave me a comment. I would love to talk cloth diapers with you:)

We Love To Paint!

One thing that I just don't do enough with the kids is get messy. I don't care for messes and I can't stand my kids being messy or dirty. I am learning to relax (kind of) on this, but it still bothers me when my kids, or oddly enough, other kids, are dirty! I just want to give them a bath immediately.

But, like I said, I am trying to better with this. So, when Kyler chose sidewalk PAINT from the craft section at Target, I hardly even tried to talk him out of it. I mean, come on, I had to try a little bit, but the darn kid wasn't budging, so I sucked it up. Luckily, it rained the first few days so he couldn't use them. However, the rain did eventually stop and he was begging to use the new paints. So, I did what any mom would do in this situation. I gave the paints to Grandma and Grandpa and said go at it. (They handle messes much better than I do!) The kids enjoyed the painting and I was able to keep my sanity. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Kyler liked the paints, but since he is just like his mama he was a very clean painter!
Ella enjoyed the paints also, and since she is just like her Daddy, the mess is everywhere!

They painted very nicely together. The only time there was fight was when Ella accidently got paint on Kyler's hand! See, just like his mama!

The masterpiece!

Random Randomness

*I have been feeling really good lately. We were able to attend my cousin's graduation party this weekend and I haven't had a nap since Friday!

*My sister, her husband, and their little man, Deegan, came down last week to help. Thank you all so much. Not only were you a huge help, but you helped me realize why two babies is definitely enough for me:)

*We leave for MD Anderson next Monday. I have a PET scan scheduled for Tuesday and hospital admittance scheduled for Wednesday. Please pray that the masses are shrinking and no new masses have shown up.

*As of June 2nd I will be halfway through my chemo treatments. Woo Hoo. I should be done in August. Can you say party time!?

*As a present to myself for kicking cancer's ass I am planning on buying myself something nice (once it is all over that is). I am still deciding between new furniture for upstairs or a new deck out back. The deck will probably win since our furniture is pretty new.

*I still have hair. Luckily, I have not had to put the wigs to use. Please keep praying that I won't lose it all. I sort of like having hair.

*Our church has been bringing us dinner every Monday night. We are very grateful to them. The dinners have helped so much.

*We had to switch Ella to a big girl bed this week:( She was able to crawl out of her crib, open her bedroom door, and join us in the living room when she was supposed to be napping! Silly little monkey!

*Because of that stupid blood clot that I was lucky enough to get, I now have to give myself Lovanox shots for the next 6 months. I am not happy about this. They are expensive and they burn like hell. Cancer and blood clots suck ass.

*I received flowers today. No, not from my hubbie, from my cousin, Debbie and her family. Her card read that I looked fabulous when she saw me this weekend. Someone battling cancer just can't hear that enough! Thank you guys so much.

*Sorry this post sucks. I don't have a ton to say. I am really just enjoying the kids this week and trying to stay positive. I know that I can beat this. I know that I have to beat this.

*Cancer has given me a new perspective on life. So, for that, I am grateful. Enjoy every second, the good, the bad, and the ugly. You never know when your life will be turned upside down. Don't sweat the small things, just be grateful to be here.
